I just got another one of a certain type of message from someone who is trying to be helpful.
Sometimes people will link me to some internet shitstorm in which I have been brought up and discussed. The letter below is the response I typically write out and send privately. I’ve gotten enough enough of this type of message now that I’ve decided to post a public version instead.
Thank you for your concern and for showing me the various people who’ve said hateful things. I appreciate that you are trying to be supportive, and it is gratifying that you have taken the time to give me notice.
At this point in time, it is my practice to not engage with people who reblog or repost images of me with derisive or hostile commentary. I have no illusions about my chances of successfully engaging with every person on the internet who is made uncomfortable by trans perspectives or by survivors anger. I really have no desire to even make the attempt.
I’ve said this before but I’ll repeat it here: every time a picture of my DIE CIS SCUM tattoo is posted with reactionary, often transmisogynistic commentary, my response is already there, picked out in hundreds of black sewing needle dots on my shoulder.
